美国之音(以下称VOA)的英语节目,按播音速率可分为两种:Standard English (规范英语)和 Special English(特殊英语)。

Special English 又叫“慢速英语”,是VOA 专为全天下非英语国度初学英语的听众布置的一种浅易、标准的英语播送节目。该节目开创于50年月末期,是VOA 的专家们研讨怎样与天下各地的英语学习者停止外交的产品。它正式开播于1959年10月。事先只面向欧洲和中东,但由于这个节目合适很多国度英语学习者的需求,以是它的播送工具不久就扩展到天下其他地域,并很快在全天下范畴内发生了普遍的影响。如今这个节目对欧洲、非洲和拉丁美洲每晚播送一次,对加勒比地域每晚播送一次(星期天除外),对西北亚播送次数最多,每天上午两次,早晨三次。

This Is America(昔日美国) This Is America向听众引见美国人民的生存、学习、任务和文娱状况,是英语学习者解美国社会的一条渠道。该专题多数一个节目一个全体,每逢星期一晚播出。
